Modding

I am not sure that you have the same habits, but sometimes I have a strong desire to work with my hands and make a funny thing… At that, the thing is a “quick” one :) I don’t mean complicated and serious projects; by the way I have two such projects now. I mean a small modding which can be completed in one or two days, in order to enjoy the result in a short time. The modded device described below was designed in such way, but we met some difficulties in our way…

The idea arose by chance when I was lapping just another radiator and besmeared myself with worked-out grease… If you have lapped a cooler or radiator at least once in your life, you can conceive what I’m speaking about. As a matter of fact, why can’t we use this “mixture” instead of thermal grease?

We have published review of Sunbeam's light-bolts. A funny piece, but there's no need to buy them, because you can make them by yourself. And I didn’t saw them on sale...

I was remembering different modding goods and was thinking where I can install colormusic and where it will look better. To light up a side? Or to make a special 5-inches module stub? No. And what about lightening the bottom of computer? That’s how I came to “lighted legs” idea.

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.

Flash drives are commonly used in electronics engineering. Almost each device has it’s megabytes, and how can it be without megabytes? There are lots of data device manufactures and all of them make a pitch of their production, they ensure us in their large resource and great reliability of their production.

You could find articles about computer modding, car tuning on the web. But I prefer articles about computer modding. In the article it is always written that it's the coolest modding ever made - making coolers with lighting, cutting a hole and decorating it. I was interested in such things. It’s rather beautiful and accurate.

How can you install such controlling devices on your computer? Security systems sellers can do it better than me, and their services are very expensive. We can’t outgun them in quality of hardware and software, but the price will be lower So, let me introduce the project of transforming a computer into intellectual security system.

In this article there is a description how to make a modding control system using software. Under modding I mean coolers, diodes, neon and so on, that is all that work from electricity and that is your computer. I will make it through LTP1 port and with the help of Visual Basic 6.

I’m a great fan of laptops.., but I have a desktop machine which performs the role of mini server… and I’ve got an idea to mode it a little (or make it more lively at least).

We gave backlighted a lot of different things! Bu I don’t remember such modding of chipset… In this way you can backlight any other chip or component part of motherboard. As a matter of fact, the modding is simple and can be completed in one evening even by the beginner… Finally you get a beautiful and original backlight. Let’s start from the very beginning…

I decided to construct a home-made radiator for hard disk because of permanently humming hard disk cooler. I took the damned cooler down and determined to do modding with my own hands and not to buy it in a shop. The cost turned out to be very low while the quality of home-made radiator was quite acceptable.

Everybody has seen transparent multicoloured coolers in modding shops: red, blue, green, with neon backlight. I wanted to make a multicoloured cooler, not only with simple change of colours, but with light effects. So I started this project… project named “RGB Cooler”.

I’ve decided to make a logo of the popular operating system Linux to give pleasure to a good friend of mine. When choosing a picture for the logotype pay attention to one important detail – the illustration shouldn’t have fragments or details jutting out of the borders. Otherwise, this will cause some difficulties later. These difficulties can be get over but it’s better to circumvent them…

Small mod of power unit for one of my self-made computers. Simple and not complicated modding construction is available even to beginners. The window in power unit was cut and illumination of its details is made from within by means of light-emitting diodes.

Small modding for beginners – mouse pad illumination through USB. I used card reader for SD memory cards as a donor of USB cord :) I took 5 volt for light-emitting diodes of illumination from this device.

This mod was made literally in two hours. I have sawn a small window of rectangular form in the case of modem. I cut out a piece of transparent plexiglass by the size of window from box for DVD disk...

The site has become more mature, its forum has started getting popular.., it is regularly read not only by users but search bots of Google and other MSN from Yahoo… This “gang” of search sites has become so big that common users will soon feel the lack of traffic :) Thus it’s high time to think over a new server; the old one can hardly operate with such increased workload and creaks at the seams… I’ve waited for the summer fall of prices on hardware, tightened my belt and…

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...
