Modding
Netcard modding
Now let’s take a drill and a drilling bit (the drilling bit diameter must be equal to the light diode, you can measure it with the help of a trammel)… Drill a hole in the card as it is shown in the photo. Let me pay your attention to the very important detail… There may be leads in the card. Having damaged the leads, you’ll lose the card’s workability once and for all. Thus, I strongly recommend you to make sure (in the light) that there are no tracks there. If it can be seen that there is a screen in both sides, there should be no tracks there…
Let’s pass to light diode preparation…

As the shell of light diode is roundish, we’ll have to make it flat (of course, there are light diodes with flat surface but I used the one that was at hand). Grip the diode in a vice, at first grind it off with a rough and than with a fine broach file until it becomes flat. Don’t overdo it.

At one of the leads, there is a contact to the crystal itself (inside the diode). If you grind off the shell to this contact, the diode will stop operating.

| Non-constructive thoughts about modding... |
All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
