How to make a heatpipe-based cooling system on your own

six heat pipes and three copper block

Having determined the type of the cooler, we must clarify the structure and composition of the computer to be. We must think over thoroughly the position of the radiator and its fastening to the computer cabinet. I strongly recommend you to select an appropriate radiator at first, mount it into the cabinet, then fix the motherboard and after that only start making all the rest. To make the heat removers, we need copper workpieces, such as copper ingots with worked butt-ends as shown in the picture. Recommended copper mark is M1. It’s better to polish the component parts; that will simplify the grinding of the surface. Not to damage the heat-removing surface while drilling, it’s better to start polishing after drilling. The dimensions are not critical, they are 60*60 mm or 50*50 mm for processor, the others are 60*80, 50*80 or near that. Copper shit cuttings with 20-30 mm thickness will be appropriate.

Let’s start with the most difficult stage, the holes drilling. We must drill through holes at the butt-ends of the ingots. The work is hard and precise. We’ll need new long high-quality drills with correct cutter grinding. I hope it’s clear why we need long drills. I’ll explain the necessity of new drills with correct cutter grinding. If the drill grinding is made by rule of thumb there will be decentration; such drill will enlarge the hole diameter more than it is necessary…

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
