Heatsink lapping guide

After 5 minutes of grinding you can clearly see curvature of the surface.

After 30 minutes of dull work plane surface is visible. Keep the work place clean, one small cut or grain of sand can complicate all the work.

Rub cooler this way till its entire surface will be smooth matted without scratches and cutter signs. Depending on radiator’s degree of curvature this process would take up from 15 minutes to 2 hours. In result we have absolutely flat surface. The forces of surface-tension protect cooler during rubbing, and they stop edges from being “ovaled”. As for me, I also made such procedure with processor. Look at the picture, even on the newest processor there can be up to one millimeter curve! I warn keen users that you'll loose your warranty and you'll have some difficulties when selling rubbed processor… Just look at a new Intel 930, February 2006…

You can additionally improve specifications by correct polishing, but it's other article theme. Good modding to you all from SilentMods.com

| Non-constructive thoughts about modding... |
All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
