How to cut a screw?

Cutting a male screw.
It’s almost the same method as the screwing tap method.
1. Sharp and quality screw die. Blunt screw die make the cut “ragged”, in this way you could twist a screw only with a wrench.
2. Grease. All the same, instrument resource, cooling, quality of a cut…
3. Carefully chosen cane diameter. It’s easier, than when working with screwing taps. You’ll need 3mm cane for M3 cut, for M4 – 4mm and so on.
4. Skills. The most important is to begin cutting a screw on a rod. You’ll need to smooth the edge of a rod on a polishing stone, to make a smooth start, and to bevel, you can see it on a picture.

If you couldn’t make a smooth start and a screw jumped, you should cut a small piece of a rod and start again. After each turn you should do half-turn in the opposite direction to shear chip scrap.

The rod should be safely pressed in vice. Its surface should be clean and smooth, it shouldn’t be rusty (screw dies are damaged from it). You can have smooth rods for modding from usual electrodes. Put them on the anvil, rap them with a hammer, to put off the daubing and sand it.

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
