How to cut a window in a computer.

    If you have cheap case for 20 bucks it would be more difficult to cut it. Such cases are made from thin steel, just like cans and carvers-knife can distort it. It’s difficult to line up a bent cut, but you can cover with a special modding part or with a flexible sealer. I’ll recommend you to train of a piece of galvanized steel or on an old bucket – the steel thickness is the same - 0.5mm.
    There is another variant. Stick double-sided adhesive to a piece of plastic and cut with it. Then you can remove it with a hairdryer. Don’t forget that you may cut wires inside your computer. Remove all cables from the cutting zone.
 

If you have neither carvers-knife nor dremel use thin drill, from 3 to 4 mm and cut holes along the perimeter. 
 

You can remove seals between the cuts with sharp nippers. Hold nippers steady, don’t swing them, otherwise the computer cover will be distorted.
 

   Now work with file of appropriate size. It will take much time, but it's time-proved method. The work quality depends from your skills. Don't be in a hurry, hands can be tired from drill and file. You should have iodine, you may scratch your hands. You can do this modding for a few days.

  Laser cutting is the coolest method, but it's expensive and very rare. If you have ideas of serious modding read the article about laser cutting.
 

    And now we have cut or saw or drilled a hole. We finished edges. What next? You can mount glass. The best material is polycarbonate. Acryl is good too. Organic glass is not the best, because it can be easily scratched. I think that glass is very good for modding. You can’t scratch it, costs little and you can find it everywhere. I have already written about glass processing methods here . You can easily cut or saw it, so I recommend you to read that article. You can glue or screw glass. If you have smooth edge you'd better glue it. Firstly paint the edge to the case colour, then glue glass. Glue to double-sided adhesive tape or to silicone. This works require accuracy, you can remove embedded compound with spirit. Silicone can be removed only with acetone. Cold bonding is not useful here, because it's not sticking to polymers. If the edge is not smooth set special sealer and fix it with screws.
