Experiments with Peltier modules

The experiment proves that Peltier modul generates electricity well. The bulb shines brightly enough, voltage is near 4.5 volt. Heating up to 160° C was not optimal, at 120° C result was only 10% better.

Temperature of coolant fluid at outlet is 10° C, at inlet it is one degree less. Judging by the results, cooling water is not so important…

Cut off water supply and put big radiator on the cooler.

The result is predictable, voltage dropped to 3 volts, and current to 0.5A. Radiator heated up to 45 ° C in fifteen minutes. After I had taken the device away from the burner, the bulb kept on shining for ten minutes more; in spite of the fact that the difference between temperatures of the ingots was only twenty degrees one could discern the coil heat.

Peltier modul - electric power station

Summary of this laboratory work is simple. It’s possible to generate electricity with the help of Peltier modul in a hike, hunting winter quarters, in a short word you can do in any place where there is such need. But for all that there must be firewood or bright sunshine, and, of course, keenness of wit.
The only obstacle may become high price of Peltier modules. Wholesale price is near 10 dollars apiece. So you will have to spend at least 200 dollars for such mini electric power station…

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
