What coolers are the most silent?
I can talk on this topic for long; much depends from manufacturer responsibility and from the model of a cooler. There are two main types of coolers. Ball bearing - with the use of ball bearings, they are more reliable and according to manufacturers' claims have resource up to 50 thousand hours. Sleeve bearing – with sleeve bearings with half as much resource, but they are quieter and cheaper. I don’t want to talk about Chinese ones, you already know everything.
How can I connect diode to Molex? What type of resistor do I need for this?
We have 5, 7 and 12 volts at our disposal. If you need to do an easy light, you can connect several diodes subsequently. The sample calculation is that usual diodes give - 2-2,5 volts, extrabright diodes - 2,5-3 volts, for subsequent connection.
It would be more difficult to connect one thing; you should install a restrictive resistor.
Connecting usual diodes is easy, for 12 V install 1,3 kOhm, for 5-7 V – 380-450 Ohm.
That is how it should look like. Don't forget about good soldering and isolation.
But this method won’t do with extrabright diodes, you should calculate. When you buy diodes ask it’s type and characteristics. Remember Ohm’s law. I=U/R and then calculate. I should mention that diode can run hot. Usual diodes are not heated, extrabright up to 50 C degrees. When you buy diodes don’t forget that radiant power is measured in candela (cd/m) 2-4 – is very low, 5-6 is moderate value, 8 or more is great. Don’t forget that diodes have polarity.
How can I install diode if there is no nominal resistor?
When it is connected sequentially, resistors' resistance is putted together. When connection is parallel it is counted by formula 1/R=1/R1+1/R2… On the picture there are two types: sequential is on top, parallel is below.
Resistors also can be with different power, they shouldn’t be overheated.
And the last, if you have bought extrabright diodes and you don’t know their parameters, you can do the following. The first method is to presume fitted parameters -15 mA.
The second was personally tested by me. Calculate the fitted parameters, mount pot resistor of that nominal, smoothly reduce its resistance, controlling the useful current and the heating.
You need the moment when it’s not becoming more bright, measure the resistance and choose pot resistor with value 5-10 % higher. You’ll need burn minimum one diode...
